As diverse as real people are ethnically and racially, so are Kelly and Li'l Friends dolls. Often referred to as the Li'l Global Village, Kelly's world is as varied as the real world. Unlike the main Barbie line, the Kelly line has consistently represented numerous ethnicities in the over 18 characters in Kelly's circle of li'l friends. These various ethnicities are accomplished through a combination of skin tone, hair color, and facial screening (eye color and other defining features). The dolls identified in this guide will refer to nine skin tones: AA - chocolate brown, AA - cocoa, AA - cafe au lait, Ethnic - toffee, Ethnic - sun-kissed tan, Ethnic - olive tan, Caucasian - standard peach, Caucasian - very fair ivory, and Fantasy/Other.   This is the darkest of the AA skin tones. Most typically used for Deidre, Tamika, AA Kelly, and AA Tommy.  (Easter Garden Tamika Pictured) This is a newer skin tone, first identified in the Swan Lake series for the AA Tommy as Ivan the porcupine.  (AA Tommy as Porcupine Pictured) This is the lighter AA skin tone. Typically used for Nia, Keeya, and Desiree.  (Babysitter Keeya Pictured) This is an ethnic skin tone used for Hispanic and Asian characters. Typically used for Maria.  (Performer Maria Pictured) This is another ethnic skin tone just slightly lighter than the previous shade also used for Hispanic and very tan Caucasian characters. Typically used for Marisa.  (Rainy Day Marisa Pictured) This is an ethnic skin tone used for Asian and mediteranian characters. Typically used for Jenny and Belinda.  (Snowboarder Belinda Pictured) This is the standard Caucasian skin tone used for most blonde characters. Typically used for Kelly, Tommy, Melody, Lorena, Liana, and Nikki.  (Dream Club Princess Kelly Pictured) This is the lightest of the Caucasian skin tones. Used sporadically for Kelly, Melody, and Liana.  (Feisty Fox Liana Pictured) These are the fun skin tones used for special characters. The usage of fantasy skin tones has been relatively limited.
