Standing at approximately 4 ¼ inches tall, Kelly and li'l friend dolls are scuplted with realistic bodies. This includes such features as dimpled elbows, indented belly buttons, individual toes, and buttocks. The bodies are unisex in sculpting with no differentiating features between boy dolls and girl dolls. The Mattel markings usually appear sideways on the back and say: ©1994 MATTEL,INC CHINA or ©1994 MATTEL,INC INDONESIA The body is made of hard vinyl plastic and the head is made of soft vinyl plastic. The torso and head is hollow, while the arms and legs are solid. The standard body mold has swing joints at the shoulders, hips, and neck. However other body molds were made that had special articulated joints or interactive levers. For modesty reasons molded on panties were added to the body mold in 2002. These molded on panties have a cross-hatch pattern and have been nick-named "waffle-butt." In 2003 some of the molded on panties were painted white. Listed and pictured below are examples of all the known body mold types. Several examples are included, however this is not an all inclusive list. The body molds are presented in order of appearance. The dolls identified in this guide will refer to these body molds.
